Specialty Spotlight: Custom Surgical Screwdrivers
One category of instruments we’ve mastered through the Specials Program is surgical screwdrivers. Surgeons often need very specific drivers – a certain handle grip, a custom shaft angle, a torque feature, or compatibility with a unique implant screw. We’ve partnered with surgeons to create one-off screwdrivers that then proved so useful, their colleagues wanted them too. Using our process, we’ve delivered custom screwdriver designs that are now used in dozens of ORs. It’s become one of our most popular Specials simply because no two surgeons are exactly alike, and having the “just right” screwdriver can make a procedure smoother.
Other instruments we’ve brought to life as Specials include lateral access tubes for spine surgery (tailored to unique anatomical approaches), curettes with custom geometries for specialized tissue removal, and graft syringe adapters to improve how bone graft or biomaterials are delivered in surgery.
